Ashley Barron is a rising star in the country music scene. Based in Nashville, Ashley’s musical journey has already been filled with remarkable achievements. She has opened for the likes of Dylan Scott and Maddie & Tae and has a couple of Billboard Country Chart Top 40 hits under her belt. However, her journey started from the bottom. Inspired by country music legends like Miranda Lambert and Loretta Lynn, Ashley began singing in her bedroom and was part of the high school choir in her hometown of Sacramento, California.
Her debut single, “It Might Get Loud,” dates back to 2017, but her breakthrough arrived three years later with the critically acclaimed song “Beer in a Bar.” In 2021, Ashley released her self-titled debut album, which earned more than 1 million streams on Spotify alone. “I’m so proud of the last album I released,” she told InMusic, reflecting on the album’s success.
Three years later, Ashley is ready to treat fans to more new music, with a new full-length album arriving very soon. A first taste of the record is already in fans’ hands, as today (July 19), Ashley has released her brand-new single, “Cryin’ In A Club.” The song, now available on all streaming platforms, showcases her unique perspective on heartbreak and resilience.
Beyond her musical career, Ashley serves as the official celebrity ambassador for the National Scleroderma Foundation. “I love being able to spread awareness in places they might not reach,” she says.
In her interview with InMusic, Ashley opens up about her inspirations, memorable moments on tour, new single, and reveals when her new album will drop.
How would you define your music?
I’ve been very fortunate to accomplish a lot of my goals throughout my music career thus far. I’ve had a couple songs on the country billboard top 40, and I’ve opened for many country music stars like Craig Morgan, Dylan Scott, and Maddie & Tae, to name a few.
You’ve come a long way since you started singing in your bedroom. What was the turning point that convinced you to pursue country music full-time?
Honestly, it’s hard to pin down one moment in time when I decided to fully pursue music. I’ve always had such a supportive community around me, and I’ve always said that as long as God keeps opening the door, I will walk through it.
You had the chance to open for country icons like Maddie & Tae and Tyler Farr. Can you share any memorable stories from those experiences?
I’ve been very lucky to open for such kind people. Every team we’ve encountered has been so awesome to work with. I’ll never forget the time I had to do a sound check with curlers in my hair, and I turned around to see Craig Morgan introducing himself to me. Talk about a first impression, ha!
Can you tell us about your new single, “Cryin’ In A Bar”?
When I got in the room with Pete, I was overwriting about my breakups. However, I was currently going through one at the time. When I told Pete I wasn’t all that sad about it, he ran with the idea! When someone breaks up with you, usually you’re going out to the bar to drown your sorrows, but this time you’re going to celebrate.
“Cryin’ In A Bar” offers a fresh perspective on heartbreak, highlighting newfound strength instead of sorrow. Can you share the line from the song that you feel best encapsulates this message?
“They were wrong, whoever said you can’t mend a broken heart.” It might also be one of my favorite lines from the song.
“Cryin’ In A Bar” follows “Betrayed” as your second release of 2024. How are these two songs connected?
Betrayed talks about betrayal. It’s the anthem for being angry about what they did to you. Cryin’ In A Bar is the realization that you’re not sad anymore and you can mend a broken heart.
Looking back at 2021, when your debut self-titled album was a huge success, how do you feel about that time now, and what advice would you give to the Ashley of 2021?
I’m so proud of the last album I released. I learned a lot, and I grew through that process. I’d tell myself what I tell new artists just starting out: if God puts it on your heart, don’t give up.
Looking ahead, are you planning to release a new full-length album in the near future?
I am so excited to share that we will be releasing a full-length album, Checkmate, this fall!
Beyond your successful music career, you also serve as the official celebrity ambassador for the National Scleroderma Foundation. Could you tell us more about this role?
It is an absolute honor to work hand in hand with the National Scleroderma Foundation. I love being able to spread awareness in places they might not reach.
What is a message you would like to give through your music and why?
I want my fans to know they are not alone. This world can be mean and brutal at times, but they don’t have to do it alone. We may not walk the same path, but I know we can find similarities in our stories.
